For the 100th anniversary of Belgian powerhouse Boortmalt, a global player in the production of malt for the beer industry, Charlies Candles had the opportunity to create a custom candle designed specifically for this momentous occasion.
Our goal? Translate a century of craftsmanship into a sensory object that felt meaningful, premium in quality, and unmistakably Boortmalt.
A scent that reflects the industry
What made this project truly unique was the fragrance brief. Instead of leaning into something generic, we wanted the scent to reflect Boortmalt’s authentic and warm perspective, rooted in their brewing process.
In close collaboration, we developed a candle with subtle notes of roasted malt; a scent that is inextricably connected to beer production and instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with the craft.
The result is a scent that brings warmth while feeling grounded and refined: a nod to tradition, expertise, and the raw ingredients that make the industry what it is.
Design with a story
Just like the fragrance, the design needed to carry meaning.
For the visual identity of the candle, we drew inspiration from Boortmalt’s rich history and the fundamentals of the malting and brewing process. Elements such as grain and water (the building blocks behind the process) were symbolically incorporated into the design.
This created a harmonious product where heritage and craftsmanship take center stage.
