Some projects don’t start in a meeting room. In our case, this one can trace its origins to our mailbox.
Landtmann’s Original, one of Vienna’s most renowned culinary establishments, graciously sent us something truly special; an authentic Guglhupf cake, shipped directly from Austria. It was that cake which became the starting point of what would turn into one of our most enjoyable (and most delicious) projects to date.
A candle you want to taste
For us at Charlies Candles, the assignment was as clear as it was challenging: translate the iconic scent of Landtmann’s Guglhupf into a scented candle.
But this was no simple exercise, because capturing the warm, soft, and slightly sweet aroma of a freshly baked cake in wax would even give Merlin a few extra grey hairs.
Through careful testing and meticulous work with the right fragrance combinations, we developed a candle that comes surprisingly close to the original. The result is a scent experience that instantly evokes freshly baked goodness, comfort and coziness, and a sense of pure indulgence.
In the end, this is a candle that makes you want to give in to indulgence.
An iconic name in Vienna
Landtmann’s Original is so much more than a brand, it’s a culinary staple and key fixture among the grandness of Viennese culture. A place where people come together for breakfast, coffee, and a perfect slice of cake in the afternoon. It carries a sense of tradition, elegance, and hospitality that’s instantly recognizable to locals and food aficionado’s alike.
These are truths which came to the fore across every detail of the project: the candle had to feel as premium and timeless as the experience Landtmann’s is known for.
From scent to experience (including design)
Beyond the fragrance itself, we paid close attention to the visual identity of the candle throughout the creative process. The design was developed to align seamlessly with Landtmann’s world, including the correct brand colors and a look that feels at home in a premium patisserie or a high-end hospitality setting.
When scent and design support each other, the product transforms from a candle to a visceral experience.

Recently, we had the chance to visit Landtmann’s Original in Vienna ourselves, which made our collaboration that more meaningful. The atmosphere, beautiful interior, and excellent service make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world for just one moment; which is exactly the kind of feeling we aim to translate to our scented candles.
